Telescopes
The Telescope – Invented 400 Years Ago
The earliest known working telescopes were refracting telescopes. They appeared in the Netherlands in 1608. Galileo greatly improved upon these designs very shortly afterwards. In 1616 Niccolò Zucchi constructed the first reflecting telescope. Some fifty years later Isaac Newton upon studying the telescope created an improved design of the reflecting telescope. It was named in his honor, the Newtonian reflector.
